A Good Place to Begin

You do not need to know where to start.

You may know you want to do more for your family, but feel unsure about where to open an account or how to manage it.

That is where we come in. We explain the choices, help with the paperwork, and manage the portfolio once it is in place. You have someone to call when a question comes up.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • I want to invest, but I have never done this before.
  • I want to start something for my kids or grandkids.
  • I have savings and need help planning for retirement.
  • I want an adviser who takes time to understand my family.

Our Connection

Native-owned.
Family-led.

Longhouse is an independent advisory firm in Encinitas, led by father and son John and Dean Ferraro.

Dean is an enrolled member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, Akwesasne, and a member of the Wolf clan. His Native identity and community relationships are part of the person you will work with.

Every family has its own story, responsibilities, and priorities. We start with yours.

Room for the people who matter to you.

If you would like a spouse, adult child, or another trusted person involved in the conversation, tell us. We can plan the meeting around that.

Clear explanations, at your pace.

We explain account choices, investment risk, and fees in plain language. Ask us to slow down or explain something again.

Advice shaped around your circumstances.

If tribal distributions are part of your income, we can discuss how they fit your spending and investment goals, with tax questions coordinated with your tax professional.

We listen to your goals, your current situation, and what feels uncertain. You do not need to know which account to choose.

02

Understand the relationship.

We explain how we can help, the investment approach, the account minimums, and the fees before you decide.

03

Questions

Before we talk.

I have never invested before. Can you help?

Yes. We explain the account options, how investments work, and the risks involved. We help with the account setup and manage the ongoing investment decisions for the accounts entrusted to us.

How much do I need to get started?

Our standard minimum for adult Private Wealth relationships is $250,000. Longhouse NextGen has a separate $10,000 starting point for children's investment relationships. We can discuss which service may fit your family's needs.

Can I invest for my child or grandchild?

Yes. NextGen is designed to help families get started. We discuss the account choices, who will own and control the funds, and how the investments fit the goal before you open the account.

Can you help with accounts I already have?

Yes. We can review your existing accounts and discuss whether a Longhouse relationship fits. We consider account features, costs, and potential consequences before recommending a transfer or rollover.

Where is my investment account held?

Client brokerage accounts are held at Interactive Brokers LLC, our custodian. Longhouse provides investment management. We explain how to access your account and statements during onboarding.

How do your fees work?

We explain the advisory fee, how it is calculated, and the services it covers before you sign. Your advisory agreement and firm disclosures set out the terms. Investment expenses and brokerage-related costs may also apply.

Can you work with my tax adviser or attorney?

Yes. With your permission, we can coordinate with your other professionals on matters related to the investments we manage. Tax return preparation and legal services are separate from this advisory relationship.

Does Longhouse only work with Native families?

No. We serve individuals and families from a range of backgrounds. Our Native ownership and relationships within Native communities are part of who we are.

Do I need to open an account before we talk?

No. The first conversation is a chance to ask questions, learn how Longhouse works, and see whether we are a fit. You do not need to open or fund an account for that conversation.

Let's Talk

Who are you
planning for?

Yourself, your children, your grandchildren. Tell us what you have in mind, and we will help you work through the next step.
